Do You Need High Definition or Traditional Liposuction?

For those who diet, exercise, and work hard to lose weight, that stubborn fat that just doesn’t seem to go away can be not only annoying but really deflating as well. That’s when procedures, like liposuction, can help to get rid of those hard-to-get spots on the bra line, back, and arms.

With advanced technologies, though, it can be hard to know what sort of procedure is best for you. New state-of-the-art procedures, like high definition (HD) liposuction, have made their way into many offices. But how do you know if you need HD lipo or just traditional lipo? Well, a lot of it depends on your desired results. At Sawan Surgical Aesthetics, board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Kamal Sawan helps Oklahoma City, OK men and women decide if liposuction is the right move for them.

What is liposuction?

Liposuction is a fat-removal procedure that allows men and women the opportunity to slim areas, like the stomach, butt, thighs, and love handles, that tend to have stubborn sections of fat that just won't go away. When a person reaches their ideal weight or not far from it, liposuction can help them lose those last few areas of fat for the look they’ve been working so hard to achieve.

This outpatient procedure typically takes between 1 – 3 hours and occurs while our patients are under general anesthesia. A cannula, or thin tube, will be inserted in the skin beneath a small incision and used to break up fatty tissues that will be suctioned out. Once complete, the incision will be closed, and post-op recovery will begin. Our Oklahoma City, OK patients typically start to see results after about 6 – 10 months.

What is HD liposuction?

HD liposuction is an ultrasound liposuction procedure using advanced technologies to offer more of a body-sculpting result. The applicator used with HD lipo liquefies the fat cells and suctions it out of the body. This procedure can be used on basically any area of the body but is typically used on the arms, chest, shoulders, back, butt, inner thighs, and abs. With HD liposuction, the procedure can take around 1 – 2 hours, as with traditional lipo, but the recovery period is shorter since the procedure is generally less invasive, and results are typically seen between 1 – 3 months.

Do I need traditional or HD lipo?

Whether you need traditional or HD liposuction really depends on your overall goals and where you are at in your journey to reaching your aesthetic goals.

Traditional liposuction may be great for you if:

  • Your focus is on removing pockets of fat

HD lipo may be great for you if:

  • You have less fat to remove but want it removed in a way that sculpts your body
  • You want more of a “shredded” or fit and toned appearance
  • You want skin tightening

It’s important to note that neither traditional liposuction nor HD liposuction is a weight-loss solution. These procedures should be completed when you are at or very close to your ideal weight. Significant weight loss or gain after these procedures could alter your results.

If you’re looking to get rid of that stubborn body fat or want to have a shredded look or ab etching completed, Sawan Surgical Aesthetics may be just what you need. Both traditional and HD liposuction can produce phenomenal results for our patients.
